Betreff: Young BPW Newsletter October 2008

Dear Madame President,

Dear Young BPW (for Spam-Reasons in BCC),

Please find here the latest Newsletter with some information out of Europe and BPW International. I kindly ask you to spread this information within your (Young BPW) members. Thank you!

BPW International Congress: Important information for all Young BPW!!!!

Dear Young BPW in Europe, this is a very important message:

1. Young BPW International Chairperson:

In Mexico, we will elect the next Young BPW International Chairperson. For us Young BPW this is a crucial position, as this Lady will represent us, our wishes (eg. MARKETING!), needs (BUDGET!), requirements (ORGANIZATION!) within the Executive Board. So, this will be a Power-Position for Young BPW. We need a strong person to represent us, to work for us. The Regional Young BPW Representatives, just like me for Europe, work very close with this person and they also depend on her – if she is supportive, helping, active and available, a lot of projects are possible. The impact is not to be underestimated, even for the single countries and Young BPW member.

We have a very good candidate to represent us Young BPW: Nadia Munawar Siddiqui from BPW Pakistan.

She is currently working within the Young BPW International Team, editing the Newsletter. Her profound BPW experience goes back to BPW Pakistan where she is heading Young BPW Pakistan, and is enriched by joining Congresses just like Young BPW Congress 2007 in Korea, CSW in New York, IDP Training. Her career brought her to the position of being Director Corporate Communication at an internationally acting company. So leading Teams, delegation, negotiation, Budget-oriented projects & developing projects has become familiar for her. By the way: this company promised to back her international BPW work, as they see the advantage and even Role Model, Nadia is giving for other women in Arabic countries!

I am fully convinced that she would be the right person: I am working with her for some years already, and I met her personally at the Young BPW International Congress in Seoul/Korea in 2007. Nadia did come to Istanbul this May 2008 to meet Young BPW from Europe and Gabriella Canonica to exchange ideas.

Find her application papers here: http://www.bpw-international.org/XXVI-congress/nom-Nadia-Munawar-Siddiqui.htm

Please do tell your Delegates to elect Nadia Munawar Siddiqui as Chairperson Young BPW International.

2. Young BPW up to 40:

There is amendment No. 18 to the constitution proposing to rise the age of Young BPW up to 40.

http://www.bpw-international.org/XXVI-congress/amendment18.htm

Currently we say, Young BPW are all women up to 35. Bundling the younger members, who started the jobs and careers, who deal with the topic career/family. Usually, somewhere in the mid-thirty the point of interest slowly changes and they grow out of Young BPW. The proposal says, that Young BPW misses out the power of women going out of Young BPW and joining BPW. This really does not match with our integrative idea of Young BPW and BPW acting as daughter and sister. It is not desirable to start a competition on workforce between both parts. It is recommended to think about other ways and strategies to maintain a BPW Club young, vivid, active and full with interesting members, willing to bring in their ideas – no matter, if they are Young BPW or BPW.

Further, I really feel that Young BPW would become less attractive for the “really” young prospects in their twenties – with the youth we would loose one of the true Young BPW USPs!

Please do tell your Delegates to disagree to this proposal. Young BPW is young and must stay young!

One point regarding myself: Time to say Goodbye:

Dear Young BPW in Europe, it is time to say officially good-bye. My term as Young BPW Europe Representive will expire up from the upcoming Congress next week. At this point I would like to thank you all for our great work and the achievements we have made so far. I am very sure that Young BPW in Europe is on a very good way.

I wish you all the best and if you join the Congress: energy to enjoy meeting new people, inspiring meetings and great fun!

With my best wishes,

Viktoria Balensiefen

Young BPW Europe Representative

2005 - 2008

BPW Roster: Keep your entries update!!!

The BPW Roster makes it very easy, that we contact each other. And it helps me with eg. contacting you, writing reports etc. When I lately checked it, I missed a lot of information. So this is a little homework from me: The BPW Roster needs to be update!

Please check your own entry: is it the right name? How many members have you got? Look at this link: www.bpw-roster.info and approve your entries at the Federations list or the Associated Clubs list. If anything is missing, ask your president for an update. Or ask Gabriella Canonica (Gabriella.canonica@bpw-europe.org) for a password, so that you can do the updates on your own.

The McKinsey Leadership Project, an initiative to help professional women, has identified five key dimensions of balanced leadership: Meaning, energy, positive framing, connection and engagement. "Since March, we've introduced the centered-leadership model to a thousand women and half as many men in regional and global learning programs. ... Many of the women reported a tremendous increase in their energy and motivation," the project personnel say. The McKinsey Quarterly (free registration for SmartBrief readers) (9/1) Share
