Young BPW elected as participant of European Council Training

Yesterday, I received wonderful news: Seda Yakinol, Young BPW from BPW Club Istanbul, successfully applied for the Gender Matters Training Course. She is accepted to this training in Budapest in April, which is especially designed for young trainers and paid by the Council of Europe CoE. This is really great, as Seda will not only represent BPW and BPW Istanbul.

 

Please feel encouraged to apply as well! Whenever you get notice about any training from CoE or similar bodies, don’t hesitate to apply! The chance to be accepted is higher as you may guess!!

2008 IDP Leadership Program: Scholarship Winner Andrea Wagner shares her impressions

 

Another example, that applying for grants and programs result in success, this is Andrea Wagner, Young BPW from Club Frankfurt/Germany. She just experienced the IDP Training in New York. 26^th BPW International Congress: Draft Programs available

This Congress offers three tracks

• Track I - Making a Difference through Leadership: Workshops in this track will address leadership development both at individual and organization level such as creative marketing strategy, win-win negotiation skill, business incubation, conflict resolution strategy, performance evaluation, success from conquering defeat, Talent development for women executives, etc.
• Track II - Making a Difference through Action: Workshops in this track will address success cases and successful strategies to enable women gain economic independent and advance in their careers, based on work of BPW affiliates which helped over 60,000 women to help themselves during 1996-2007. Highlight on some of the topics include financing gender equality projects, skill trainings, micro-credits, mentoring, using e-Business and other information and communication technology (ICT) to enhance opportunities for women, etc.
• Track III - Making a Difference through Advocacy: Workshops in this track will address emerging issues for women in the 21st Century that still needs to be addressed in order for women to overcome the obstacles, achieve their full professional and career potential and attain “equal participations of women and men in power and decision making”. The highlights on some of the issues are gender pay gap, work-life balance, violence against women, International migration, Ageing population and economic impact on women, Return on investment when women became top executives, etc.

Important note: Young BPW can apply for subsidies to help covering your travel costs. The maximum amount is planned with EUR 500. Deadline for application is May 24^th.

BPW Germany: First German Equal PayDay on April, 15th

 

On April, 15^{t h}  2008, the first Equal PayDay will be held in Germany. in July 2007, BPW Germany founded the initiative “Red Purse” by adopting an idea from USA – just right at the halftime of the year of equal opportunities in 2007. The objective is clear: women don’t accept any longer to be paid with only 80% of a men’s salary – they want to get the same payments as men. This campaign is supported by all 38 BPW Clubs with its 1,800 BPW members, by some other important official bodies to represent equality – and last but not least supported with a budget by the Federal Ministry for Family & Women.

 

Beside the many different actions of single Clubs, BPW Germany helds a nationwide Press Conference and has prepared an Online-Forum, where information round about the Payment Gap and success stories how to minimize it, are collected. See the Website www.equalpayday.de

To me, it is a very impressing big action BPW Germany is successfully doing to claim same payments for same jobs! Let’s hope that this campaign brings the requested effects!
